Manifestation à Cotonou : Les Syndicats Réclament des Mesures contre la Vie Chère

The increase in food costs in the small West African nation prompted Benins labour unions to call for an unprecedented series of protests against the cost of living -- the first was dispersed by police firing tear gas and a second banned by the authorities. A third planned for Cotonou on May 11 has been granted authorisation by city officials. Benins consumer prices and economy have been hit by fallout from the Ukraine war and by the closure of the border with major trading partner Niger to the north following a coup there last July. Après avoir été empêchés par la police de manifester le 1er mai, les militants ont pu cette fois marcher dans les rues de Cotonou sans incident. Encadrée par un important dispositif policier.
La marche s’est déroulée dans le calme, avec pour mot d’ordre principal « Non à la gouvernance qui affame ». Les leaders syndicaux ont exprimé leurs revendications, notamment des mesures immédiates contre la vie chère.
La reprise du dialogue social, et la libération de militants détenus depuis le 1er mai. Cette mobilisation témoigne de la détermination des citoyens à faire entendre leur voix face aux défis socio-économiques auxquels ils sont confrontés.
